The Key to know Gear Motor

1. What is a gear motor?

A gear motor is an electric motor coupled with a gear box. In most cases, the addition of a gear box is intended to limit the speed of the motor’s shaft and increase the motor’s output torque. Gears transform shaft speed and torque at specific ratios, with minimum efficiency losses, which makes it possible to create the ideal output speed and torque with the addition of an appropriately sized and configured gearbox. Gear motors use either AC (alternating current) or DC (direct current) power depending on the type of electric motor coupled to the gearbox.

2. How are gear motors used?

Gear motors are used in applications that require high torque output at lower shaft speeds, which encompasses a wide range of applications and scenarios. Gear motors power many common applications, such as patient mobility equipment, precision agricultural planting solutions, conveyor drives, frozen beverage equipment, and medical tools.

3. What applications DO NOT use gear motors?

Because of the widespread use of electric gear motors, it is easier to explore applications where they ARE NOT used. Any application that requires high shaft speed, such as fans, pumps, and engine starters, will not benefit from the use of a gear motor, since gear motors reduce speed in favor of higher torque.

4. What are the different gear motor types?

The two most common gear motor types are right-angle gear motors that use worm, bevel, or hypoid gearing and inline gear motors, which typically use spur gears or planetary gear sets. Worm, spur, and planetary gear technology is most frequently used in many gear motor designs. Gear motors can be purchased with a variety of AC or DC motor types and are available in many reduction ratios to accommodate a vast number of applications such as automatic door operators, food & beverage equipment, and robotics.

5. What is non geared motor?

Non geared motor is gearless (direct drive) hub motors.

In a direct drive hub motor, the axle that passes through the center of the motor is actually the axle of the motor itself, with the copper windings fixed to the axle. This whole axle assembly is called the stator. The magnets are mounted to the outer shell of the hub motor.

6. What is the difference between geared and non geared motors?

The geared hub motor produces much higher torque, so they are not only good for daily commuting, but can also be a better option for hill climbing. With a gearless motor, you have to work very hard to achieve the same effect.

7.  Are geared hub motors noisy?

Geared hub motors tend to be quieter, while direct drive motors might produce more noticeable sounds due to their larger size. Mid-drive motors strike a balance between the two.

8. Do you sell waterproof motors and gear motors?

9. Do you sell dust proof motors and gear motors?

We are able to source motors that are IP-Rated. Please contact us to discuss your project.

10. Do you sell explosion proof motors and gear motors?

We may be able to source motors that are explosion proof. Please contact us to discuss your project.

11. How do I get a replacement motor or gear motor for my product?

If youve popped the cover off your equipment and found our name on the motors sticker we recommend you contact the manufacturer of your equipment first. Chances are the company who built your equipment purchased a motor from us in a large volume quantity.

12. How much heat can a motor or gear motor handle?

Many variables play a role in heat tolerance in a motor: how much power is exerted for how long, if there is a fan built in to the product to cool, ambient temperature. Our motor and gear motor engineer is here to help answer that question when working on your motor application.
