Unfinished Powder Metallurgy Gear Tooth Accuracy: The tooth accuracy of sintered gears can be controlled at JIS 6, while the tooth accuracy of heat-treated gears can be controlled at JIS 7. After being processed with finishing molds, the gear tooth accuracy will be greatly improved: the tooth accuracy of finished sintered gears can be controlled at JIS 4-5, and the tooth accuracy of finished heat-treated gears can be controlled at JIS 6. The gear tooth accuracy grade should generally be specified on the drawing.

 

Powder metallurgy gears are formed using molds, and their surface roughness is typically good. The surface roughness of sintered parts can be controlled at Ra3.2. After undergoing mold finishing, the surface roughness will be improved. However, due to the porosity on the surface of powder metallurgy gears, the increase in surface roughness is limited (the surface roughness of powder metallurgy gears cannot be controlled at Ra0.8). The inspection items for powder metallurgy gears are basically the same as those for machined gears, including tooth top diameter, tooth thickness, inner diameter, hardness, density, tooth resistance, and tooth accuracy.
